For those of you who are all things Mozilla and use Thunderbird for your email, I thought I'd share this very simple little tidbit of information. It's something that has frustrated me greatly and I never would have known the solution was so simple if I didn't just go and look for myself...

The tool bar has such handy buttons as get mail, write, address book and so on and so forth.

There are two things that I have found myself saying, on occasion that I wish was there and isn't. And I even considered making an extension to add them because there must be others that wish for these things...

1. A "Mark as" button so that I don't have to move from my mouse to my keyboard just to mark an email as read or unread.

2. A way to filter/view certain emails quickly without having to go to the View menu and drill down sub menus until I find what I am looking for.

It turns out, those things are available on the toolbar!!! They're just not displayed by default. Here's what you do:

Right click anywhere on the tool bar and you'll get a single option: 'Customize'. Choose that and you'll get a popup window full of items that you can add to the tool bar. Simply drag the Mark button and the View drop down box onto the tool bar, anywhere you want them and press 'Ok'! tada!!!!

You can take it another step if you want and drag things back OFF of the tool bar and onto that popup and it'll be gone. Never print your emails?? Get rid of that button. Never use the back or forward buttons?? Lose them.

You can even reorganize everything so that the new shiny 'Mark' button is closer to the front of the list.

It's pretty straight forward, and many people will go 'duh' but at the same time, many people just simply forget that you can do things like this. So keep it in mind next time you're frustrated having to hit that 'm' on the keyboard!
